  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County Announces CEO Transition

    Reggie Coleman promoted to CEO as of July 1, 2022;

David Anderson, current CEO, to become Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Development

TRENTON, NJ, January 20, 2022 -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County Board of Directors has appointed Reggie Coleman,  Executive Vice President of Operations of BGC Mercer, and a 24 year veteran of the Club, as Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1. He will be working closely with David Anderson, CEO for the past 20 years, who will be taking on the role of Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Development.

“We are extremely grateful for Dave’s leadership and commitment to the Club, and we look forward to working with Reggie to ensure that the Club remains the leader of youth programming in Mercer County,” said Board Chair Bill Straughn.  “Dave leaves a rich legacy of accomplishments, and we are thrilled to have Reggie, an accomplished veteran leader at the Club who’s held multiple positions with increasing responsibilities, succeed him.”

Since joining the Mercer County Boys & Girls Club in 2003, Anderson achieved the following:

    • Growth of revenues from $500,000 to over $5 million.
    • Growth from providing programs for 100 youths per day to more than 700 youths per day now.
    • A $7.5 million capital campaign to build the Spruce Street Community Center in Lawrence Township, a 35,000 square-foot facility that offers a wide variety of services and activities for our children.
    • Initiatives such as the Bike & Computer Exchanges, College Access, Literacy, and Social -Emotional Learning programs, as well as the Princeton E-bikes store.

In 2019, Anderson led the formation of the Club’s Foundation, with a goal to raise $20 million dollars over the next 20 years and build an endowment for the organization to ensure its legacy of serving Trenton-area youth. He also has grown the professional staff and recruited and developed a talented and committed team, as well as helping lead the Club through the pandemic.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as CEO the past 20 years,” said Anderson. “The joy of working with great staff, caring Board members, and committed donors has enabled us to achieve much.  I am delighted to pass the baton to Reggie and look forward to supporting him in his new role.”
In his new role as CEO, Coleman will run the Club’s operations out of 10 program locations, with 110 staff and more than 300 volunteers.  He will work closely with the Board of Directors and oversee the Club’s new Strategic Plan.

Coleman is a fixture in Trenton, just like the Boys & Girls Club.  Coleman was raised in Trenton, and attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, Trenton Catholic Academy (then known as McCorristin High School), and earned his BA from Upsala College as well as a certificate in non-profit management from TCNJ.  Reggie has been recognized multiple times locally and regionally for his service and accomplishments. Reggie will also have the important and wonderful distinction of serving as the Club’s first African American CEO.

In his tenure at the Club, Reggie has had numerous successes, including:

    • Opened (8) school-based after school sites in partnership with local Boards of Educations to serve 500 youth/day.
    • Implemented a comprehensive social-emotional learning program as part of the organization’s ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) initiative.
    • Installed a new Learning Management System within the Club’s program delivery model to increase staff training & development, diversity of curriculums, and provide students with 24/7 access to Club Services.
    • Led the growth of the Club’s Teen program from less than 20 teens to more than 200 teens and implementation of our Career Launch, College Access, and College Scholarship program.

“I’m looking forward to filling the big shoes left behind by Dave as CEO,” Coleman said. “Serving Mercer County youth and helping them reach their full potential is very personal to me, and I’ll work tirelessly to ensure that our youth receive the programs they need.”
The Board of Directors will be holding a celebration event recognizing Dave’s year of service on Tuesday, May 17th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Mercer County Boat House. More details can be found here: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/davandcel/

The Board will be hosting an event to recognize Reggie’s appointment on Thursday, July 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Trenton Country Club.
