About the Youth of the Year Program
Youth of the Year (YOY) is a mentoring program through which BGC members are paired with volunteer mentors. YOY helps high school students improve their public speaking and writing skills. Each mentor works with their mentee on completing three essays and one (2) minute speech. The program concludes with our Youth of the Year Celebration, in which students complete to become BGC Mercer's Youth of the Year. Our winner then goes on to reprsent our Club in a state competition. Youth of the Year candidates are eligible for various scholarships awarded by BGC Mercer to use toward college.
Typically students commit one day per week to meet/communicate with their mentor about the competition for the time period of October-February. For more info or to register contact our Memebership Office at 609-695-6060 option 0
