Youth of the Year
About the Youth of the Year Program
Youth of the Year (YOY) is a mentoring program through which BGC members are paired with volunteer mentors. YOY helps high school students improve their public speaking and writing skills. Each mentor works with their mentee on completing three essays and one (2) minute speech.
The 2024 program will conclude on Friday, March 1, 2024 at our Soaring into Great Futures Dinner. Everyone is invited! Purchase your tickets today and reserve your seat at this fundraiser and be our guests as finalists complete to become BGC Mercer's Youth of the Year. The YOY serves as an ambassador for our Club and youth and exemplifies the impact Boys & Girls Clubs have in transforming lives.
Join us and be inspired by our candidates and other youth who are flying high this year! All proceeds from tickets purchased provide After School, College & Career Prep Programs, Tutoring, STEM & more...
The winner selected on March 1, goes on to represent our Club in a state YOY competition. This young person is also eligible for various scholarships awarded by BGC Mercer to use toward college or technical school.
Typically students & mentors commit to meet/communicate about once a week for the duration of the competition perparation time period ending March 1, 2024.

2022 Youth of the Year 
John Ramos
John participated in Club activities for over 7 years.
He served as a volunteer soccer coach, in our youth and adult soccer leagues.
He was the captain of his varsity soccer team, a volunteer at Arm & Arm, and is a biology major in college.
He plans to become a physician.
