Life Guards: Ms. Saraye and Ms. Ashley

This summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs pool at our Centre Street location has been open on Wednesday evenings for drop-in (all Club members are free to drop in and swim; families of younger members can join them as well). On a recent Wednesday evening, our lifeguards were surprised when they saw a distressed woman through the fence at the back of the Club property on the adjacent street.

Trained to react in such situations, Ms. Saraye, who attends LSU and is training to be a nurse, consulted with Ms. Ashley, who is newer to lifeguarding. They both hurried to get all the kids out of the pool and into the Club. “I just had to help; it is what I have been trained to do,” said Miss Saraye. The two guards then ran around the block and administered CPR for over five minutes until Trenton EMS responded. Paramedics on the scene believe their quick action saved this woman’s life.

This is a true testament to the Club not only serving our youth but also being there to help our community. Our dedicated staff have the power to change many lives, not only those of Club Kids but also in our city.
