My introduction to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mercer County was the result of a day-long volunteer project through Comcast at the Centre Street facility. I remember thinking, “This must be a nice place for kids in the neighborhood.” Some years later, I took a tour of both the Center Street and Spruce Street facilities and learned more about the Clubs’ projects.
I was particularly impressed with the fact that the afterschool programs have an educational, as well as a recreational, component. I thought about how the group helped so many families in Trenton and nearby communities by providing a safe place for kids to meet after school and during the summer.
Then I was asked to join the Board. I said “yes” immediately. The more I learn about the Clubs, the kids, the incredibly hard-working staff, and the devoted volunteers, the more I know I gave the right answer. The Legacy Society will help to address future financial needs and ensure that the Clubs’ 85 years of serving the community is only the beginning.
