angle-left Local Youth Steps-up to Help During Covid-19

Raises Money for PPE & Supplies

Jasmine Yazid, a junior at Princeton High School, has been volunteering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County since 2017. First, helping counselors in the summer camps, then raising money for the new Garden & Outdoor Education Center in Trenton, and running with Run For Club Kids

Now, with Covid-19, everything changed. Jasmine said, “I knew what they needed.” She jumped into action and volunteered this summer to build content for the new Learning Management System for the online programming launching this fall. She also asked friends and families for money to purchase PPE for in-person programs. Her efforts yielded a September donation of 1000 Adult Masks, 500 youth masks, 30 bottles of sanitizers, 100 wipes, and hundreds of adult and youth gloves. The Clubs have been operating in-person programming since June 22 and running with new safety and cleaning protocols has dramatically impacted its finances. New this fall, the Trenton & Lawrence Clubhouses have been transformed into virtual learning spaces with adult supervision for in-person youth attendance while going to school online. Her volunteer efforts and supplies have genuinely made a difference in the lives of our community youth.
