Career Preparation

002Career Launch helps teens understand the connection between educational and career success, explore career interests, develop career pathways, gain work experience, and prepare for college or technical school after high school graduation.

Career Explorers provides career exploration activities for children ages nine to 15 before they are of employment age and is designed to educate boys and girls about career opportunities and orient them to the world of work.

Job Ready provides Club members, ages 16 to 18, with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter and compete in today’s workforce. Through 120 competency-based sessions organized into 11 program units, Job Ready is designed to build the essential skills teens need to find, obtain, keep, and excel in jobs. Through engaging demonstrations, role-playing, and practice sessions, Job Ready participants learn by doing and develop competencies that are observable and measurable.

 Job ready is a 8 week Work Readiness program geared towards High School students. In Job Ready students learn essential skills that they will need to become self sufficient in the workplace. Activities include: Interview skills, resume writing, being punctual, responding to authority, college searches, college tours, and filling out successful applications. Not only do we provide tools to become successful on the workplace but, also in goal planning. Our goal is to make sure all our teens graduate high school on time and enter into post secondary education. We have expanded our Job Ready program to several high schools such as: Trenton Central High School (Main and West), Trenton Catholic Academy, Daylight/Twilight High School and Emily Fisher High School.

College Prep 101- Helps teens choose their top 2 major fields of study and 3 jobs within each field. They will also work on college identification. That includes listing 6 safe schools,3 dream schools. They will be given a college plan guide, participate in college tours, SAT Prep and they will learn how to fill out college applications and write essays.
Real Sex Ed - Teaches high school students facts about topics such as birth control and healthy relationships through interactive games and activities.

Teens who participate in Career Launch are offered tutoring to help them succeed academically. Those who complete Job Ready training are given job shadowing opportunities and paid internships. Participants receive career counseling with professional staff members on a regular schedule to set career, educational, and social goals, and to secure job placement.

Through our newly-instituted mentoring program, successful relationships develop between our teens and employees of area corporations who volunteer as youth mentors.

Career Fairs bring professionals into the Club to share their real-world experiences. Workplace site visits broaden our members’ views of the world of work.
