Cooking Class is a dynamic wellness program that demonstrates how to shop and prepare food that is nutritionally sound. Each session includes a nutrition lesson after which a meal is created using that day’s lesson. The dishes then are offered to Club kids at as a nutritional meal or snack. (The relationship between food and culture is also addressed and members learn how their ethnic and cultural background may influence the kinds of foods they eat.)
4-H programs are offered through the Mercer County 4-H Club. Activities include 4-H-4-Reel (movie making) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility while reinforcing positive behaviors in male Club members ages 11 to14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14 small-group sessions, each of which concentrates on a specific aspect of manhood through highly interactive activities. (Each participant is issued his own "Passport" to underscore the idea that he is on a journey of maturation and personal growth.)
SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) is a prevention and education program that addresses the problems of drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity. The program uses a team approach involving Club staff members, peer leaders, parents, and community representatives
SMART Girls is an outgrowth of the popular SMART Moves program. SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention through education, and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 10 to 15. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.
